Internationally, "Drivers License" has peaked at No.1 in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Slovakia, Sweden and the United Kingdom. The song is #1 for a 3rd week atop the Hot 100, the Billboard Streaming Songs chart, the Digital Song Sales chart and the Billboard Global and Global Excl. charts in its first week, with 130 million streams and 49,000 sales on the Billboard Global 200 chart, and 54.5 million streams and 12,000 sales on the Global Excl.
"Driver's License" also debuted atop the Billboard Streaming Songs chart, the Digital Song Sales charts, the Billboard Global and the Billboard Global Excl. Rodrigo became the youngest artist to go to #1 since Billie Eilish, who topped the Hot 100 chart with "Bad Guy" in August 2019. The song debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 earning 76.1 million US streams, 38,000 digital downloads and 8.1 million airplay impressions in its opening week. In the US, the song sold over 16,000 digital downloads in its first 3 days with over 21 million streams and has already been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America for sales in excess of 500,000. Music critics praised the lyrics, vocals and production by Dan Nigro.
Olivia personally penned the lyrics to the song which are about her own personal heartache after a breakup. "Driver's License" was released on January 8, 2021, via Interscope Records and Geffen Records, as the lead single from Rodrigo's hugely awaited upcoming debut EP.
